As a Muslim-American Pakistani, Irum's passion for storytelling is rooted in a desire to raise awareness of societal and cultural injustices [in light of combatting them.] She has worked as a journalist for local newspapers in Metro Detroit, studied at one of the highest-rated journalism schools, and traveled abroad for photojournalism and documentary mini-series projects. Her work has not only been recognized with numerous awards but has also opened doors to prestigious platforms such as the 'Art of Seeing' photojournalism fellowship in Istanbul in October 2015, where she collaborated with the esteemed travel photographer Peter Sanders. By January 2016, Irum was producing insightful stories for the Huffington Post, exploring the intersections of faith, art, and innovation, and also dedicated time to a Detroit-based non-profit, advocating for human rights.
Irum says that every good story lies right outside of your comfort zone and within the most dug-out, thought provoking questions. On her never-ending journey to success, she hopes to continue growing, learning, and achieving her dreams — all while inspiring others to do the same.
